Reach Records and Derek Minor Reveal ‘Minorville’ Album Cover and Release Date
Fresh off the release of his new song and video “Dear Mr. Christian” featuring Dee-1 and Lecrae, Derek Minor of Reach Records and Reflection Music Group released the cover art for his 4th Studio album Minorville. In an exclusive-behind the scenes video, the creation process for the 3-D cover is explained in great detail.
In a recent video interview with DJ Wade-O, Derek Minor says that the recording process for Minorville unlocked many musical possibilities for him. “Last year, after my album dropped, I kind of got bored with rap. We [Hip Hop] hadn’t pushed the bounds content wise and we hadn’t pushed the bounds musically,” Minor explained. Minor is aiming to push those bounds via Minorville. “Everyone I have let hear the music is like ‘Oh wow,'” he said.
In a seperate interview with David Daniels of Wade-O Radio, Derek Minor explained the concept behind the project. “Minorville is an imaginary city that I’ve created.” He then explained that everyone lives in their own little world, (insert your name)ville.
“I want to just bring you into my world,” said Minor. “This album is really just my opinions on things, what’s important to me, how God has affected my life and hopefully through that, you’ll be able to hear my testimony.”
Rapzilla is reporting that the Minorville cover was designed by Invisible Creature. This is also the team that designed Lecrae’s Gravity and Andy Mineo’s Heroes For Sale album covers and associated branding elements.
On its website, Reach Records revealed that the project is slated for release September 10, 2013. The album’s sub theme is “Everyone Goes Thru it.” Derek Minor began recording Minorville last December.
