Lecrae Nominated for a 2017 BET Hip Hop Award

Lecrae and Ty Dolla $ign

Lecrae is nominated for another BET Hip Hop Award.  This time around, the lead single from All Things Work Together, “Blessings” feat. Ty Dolla $ign, is nominated for Impact Track at this year’s awards.  “Blessings” is up against, Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow”, Jay-Z’s “Story of OJ”, Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble” and “DNA” as well as Tyler the Creator’s “Who Dat Boy” feat. A$AP Rocky.

When you look at that list and think of how big each of those songs are, you will realize how big a feat this is.  That said, this isn’t Lecrae’s first go around at the BET Hip Hop Awards.  “Nuthin'” off his album Anomaly was nominated in the same category in 2014. Lecrae also performed a spoken word piece during the Award Show last year and who can forget his performance during the BET Cypha in 2011.

Earlier this year, Lecrae’s acceptance speech during the BET Awards (separate from the BET Hip Hop Awards) sparked some controversy when he stated that he wasn’t a gospel artist, upon being presented with the Bobby Jones Inspirational Artist Award.  Perhaps, he made the statement in an effort to angle for more nominations at the BET Hip Hop Awards.

Regardless, congrats to Lecrae.  Let’s hope he adds another award to his already crowed award case.

The BET Awards air Tuesday, October 10 at 8 PM EST on BET.
