Date Night

Well, I may get stoned for this, but it is what it is. Fellas, if you never knew, ladies love dates. We get dolled up, take hours to pick out a shirt and jeans, may have a small anxiety attack if our hair doesn’t act right, and please don’t let it rain! OH NO! Ladies, here’s a secret, men also put a lot of thought into the activity of the night. Will she like putt-putt golf? What if she doesn’t eat pizza? Is my shirt on straight? I hope she is ok meeting me… By now, I’m sure you are wondering ‘What does any of this have to do with God?’ A whole lot!

When was the last time you put that much time and energy into an activity for God? Making sure you put your best foot forward in ministry? When was the last time you took your time to prepare for service other than a rehearsal, choir member? When was the last time you took 2 hours to make sure the sound system was definitely on point, audio tech? Can you remember a time when you just went to church just to sit, pastors? We are called to do things with excellence anyway. (1 Cor. 14:40)

If we can take countless hours and days to mentally and physically prepare for 1 date night with someone that may or may not even be interested in us for longer than 5 min., the least we can do is give God our best! Don’t think for 1 sec. that God just doesn’t care. Ex. 34:14b says “…for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.” (NIV) God wants our attention. David said in Ps. 42:2When can I go and meet with God? Sounds like a date…Let’s give God the same attention we would give a ‘Date Night.’
