The ESPN Star Seeks to Help Men Reach their God-Given Potential
I’m honored to say I’m a member of the new movement started by ESPN’s Chris Broussard and long-time friend Malik Carey called K.I.N.G. Movement. The K.I.N.G portion stands for Knowledge, Inspiration and Nurture thru God.
K.I.N.G was founded in response to the national plight of families and men, particularly those in urban and minority communities. Divorce rates are high. Fatherlessness is prevalent. Families are broken. Boys need mentors. Many African-American and Latino men are incarcerated. Too many men don’t know Jesus.
With those issues in mind, Chris, a long-time fan of Christian Hip Hop, started the organization based on the following mission:
To empower men to reach their God-given potential in every realm of life through the power and grace of The Lord Jesus Christ. To help us become the husbands, fathers, leaders, citizens and role models God created us to be. To present to our families, communities, nation and world an image of men as God-fearing, family-oriented, moral, loving, intelligent, responsible and productive. To glorify The Most High God by walking in true Biblical manhood.
“K.I.N.G. is focused on becoming a national movement rather than a mere organization that runs programs,” explains Chris. “This is our focus because we believe movements, rather than organizations, change cultures, and we believe both Black America and America as a whole are in need of a culture change.”
Open to men of all races and featuring Advisory Board Members that include former NBA All-Star and current Knicks Executive Allan Houston, Dwight Howard Sr., Author Dr. Joel Freeman, Project Joseph President Dr. Carl Ellis, Olympic Gold Medalist and former NBA All-Star Michael Redd, Rev. Alfonso Wyatt, Eagle Academy President and CEO David Banks as well as Pastor Calvin Duncan, K.I.N.G. is poised to help strengthen men everywhere in their walk with the Lord.
The video below, which was filmed, edited and produced by K.I.N.G member Al Hardy, gives a great overview of what the organization stands for as well as the types of initiatives K.I.N.G. will undertake.
National Men’s Prayer Call
The organization has been hosting National Men’s Prayer Calls for nearly two years. A 30 minute call is held every Thursday at 12:30 PM. EST. I’ve been blessed tremendously by these calls as I’ve been fortunate to lead them multiple times.
