Are You Fruity?

In the book of John, Jesus describes our Christian lives as branches on a tree. John 15:1-2 (NIV) I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” Jesus is the tree that every Christian develops from. God is the gardener that inspects these branches to make sure that His fruit is being produced not just an abundance of leaves.

As a Christian, it should be evident that the Spirit of God that lives within. There should be characteristics or “fruit” that the Spirit makes visible through you. Galatians 5:22 (NIV)- “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians shows us that evidence of your walk with Christ is seen from not just attitude but action. (Notice a thought of kindness and showing kindness are different things.) A true connection to Christ is visible to those around you. John 15:8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” Whether you realize it or not, you are bearing fruit. If you don’t have any fruit from Christ being in you, who’s fruit are you bearing?
